Summer has been a long time coming this year in NYC, and it feels almost incredible that it's now finally hot enough to even think about going to be beach. But not entirely incredible, and that's why I woke up with a smile on my face. Because we are going here today.
Honestly, if you are not in a park or on a beach or at the very least taking your coffee break outside today, I am very very sorry for you. In fact, if you are unable to get outside because of work or school or health, send me a note and I'll make sure you get some nature sent to you.
Me? I'm piling the family into a rental and trekking out to Jones Beach. Of course, we also love the beaches closer to the city -- Jacob Riis Park is amazing, and not only because it's named for a Danish social justice advocate. But it's been so long since we did a road trip that lasted less than 14 hours that 90 minutes on the road will feel like a breeze.
I'm a little bummed that I didn't end up putting this wonderful bathing suit into production last year. I made one sample late last summer, and it got a lot of love on social media. But running a still fledgling business while holding down a full-time job and attempting to successfully parent a teenage child (not to speak of trying to be a supportive spouse) can be a bit daunting and certainly requires clear priorities.
Meanwhile, I better get everything and everybody in gear to actually make it to the water before dark. Please write me about your beach trips too!
